Sometimes the desires become a passion, the passion then becomes a dream and the dream one day turns into a reality and thus comes the vision to make the dream an unforgetable landmark on the sands of time.
In mid 1997, I was at a cross-roads wondering what to do after having finished with my assignment With  India and Dubai Based Integra Group-whether to return to India or continue doing something in East Europe having moved to Moscow in 1993. For me, the move to Moscow was destined while I was the CEO Intl Trade and Corporate Relations with Satya Group of Khaitans and they had zeroed down on me to go to Moscow and set up their Trading Office there in year 1992-93. While I was scouting around for the Infrastructure , Came a very good offer from a British Company for a similar kind of assignment and far more challenging as their body care products were already tested and tried in the market of the Russia and their aim was to spread their wings to the other CIS Countries and The Baltic Countries, once a part of the Soviet Union. Theirs was a very dynamic Group with a Young 32 years old Managing Director and surprisingly the youngest of the Jatania Brothers in the family owned Lornamead Ltd and it was therefore far more challenging to be their CEO for Russia and the CIS etc. I rate that experience, though not too long , as the one which laid foundations much later for me to branch off on my own as from that young Managing Director Mike Jatania I learnt that if you have the Go and the determination -Sky is the limit.
At the invitation of a Business Contact by the name of Jonas Lapinskas my late wife Suwvarna( Sue) and I visited Kaunas in Lithuania where Jonas is based and he planted a thought in our minds that Lithuania and the Baltics are the emerging markets and to set up business here will probably be a good step rather than going back to India and we started thinking seriously of that. During our 3 days stay we ate at some of the best restaurants in Vilnius ,the Capital of Lithuania and in Kaunas and everytime we went back to our Hotel, Sue and I often wondered what would it be like to give Lithuanians a taste of the Ethnic Spicy Indian Food and the more we talked about it, the more desireous we were getting to implement this idea. Both Sue and I were great Foodies, further her brief stint with The Oberoi Group Of Hotels in Delhi had fired sparks of imagination that going into the Hotel or the restaurant business should be our ultimate aim, a fact she was to confess during those days of the exploration of the Baltics.
Thus rose the passion to start an Indian Restaurant in Vilnius in April-May 1997 and thus came the determination to make it into a reality. With this goal and vision in our heads , Sue and I moved to Vilnius in June 1997 to start the first Indian restaurant there.
There were many setbacks but without wanting to go into them I only wish to mention that it was much harder a job to set up the business in the early years of the Independence and I was at the end of my patience wanting to return home to India but Sue was determined that we must be patient as nothing is so easy in life.
In April, 1998 "Sue,s Indian Raja " restaurant was set up in Vilnius in Lithuania but unfortunately without Sue as she had passed away in end October,1997 in Moscow due to a Cardiac Arrest. Appropriately the restaurant was named after Sue, MY INSPIRATION.
